Build Institutions with a one line mission statement
Bell labs had a stated mission of "the best and most complete telephone service at the lowest possible cost". With 10K+ strong workforce and the intellectual freedom to pursue many possible options in parallel, Bell Labs was one of the most productive research labs in the history of mankind. Almost everything that happens in Silicon Valley can trace it route back to the inventions by Bell Labs.
Google's mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Google is well on its way to be the most important driver of transformational technologies in the history of mankind: information and communication ecosystems, robotics, self driving cars and tons of possibilities.
Here are the most important lessons of innovation and collaboration. Build institutions with a simple mission and give them the intellectual freedom. I do not have the resources of governments to run Manhattan Projects, nor do I have a business model to build R&D labs of the scale of AT&T or Google. I am frugal and is well within my means to build undergraduate colleges with thousands of students and top-tier faculty focused on solving problems in literacy, sanitation, housing, energy and healthcare. Each area deserves at least a 10K strong workforce.
**Google as a company may not be interested in starting undergraduate colleges, I have the freedom and passion to do this as an individual. These will be built at no cost to Google. My salary is sufficient!
